Side 1 shows Franko’s Map of Kaua’i in stunning shades of green, rising from its nearly circular shoreline to Wai’ale’ale, the wettest spot on earth, at the island’s center. Every steep canyon of the Na Pali Coast can be seen, as well as the eight major rivers. Waimea Canyon forms a deep gash in the landscape, as can be clearly seen. The intricacies of the coast can be traced, from Hanalei Bay and Kilauea Point on the North; to Kapa’a and Lihue on the East; to Koloa, Po’ipu and Port Allen on the South; and to the remote and steep Na Pali Coast on the West. Hawaiian reef creatures, such as the spotted eagle ray, lemon butterfly fish, green sea turtle, and the humuhumnukunukuapua’a, or reef triggerfish, are colorfully depicted. Dive and snorkeling sites around the island are described, including Ke’e Beach, Tunnels Reef, Poipu Beach Park, Koloa Landing, General Store, Mana Crack and others. Kauai’s best kayaking spots are listed, including the Hanalei River, Anini Barrier Reef, Wailua River, Hanapepe River, and the Na Pali Coast. The main recreation areas, waterfalls, trails, camping, and all major roads and highways are shown.
Side 2 shows Franko’s Map of Kaua’i with zoom-in details of the North, East and South Shores and the Islands of Ni’ihau and Lehua. Details of Lehua include its many undersea attractions, such as Vertical Awareness, Lehua Slope, Ni’ihau Arches and the Key Hole dive sites. The North Shore detail ranges from Ha’ena and Ke’e Beach, which is the beginning of the Kalalau Foot Trail, to Hanalei, Princeville, and Kilauea. Dive sites include Ke’e Beach, Cannon’s Reef, Tunnels Reef, and Anini Beach. The East Side Detail shows roads and sites from Kapa’a to Lihue and on to Nawiliwili Harbor, where cruise ships berth. Major hotels and shopping centers are located, as are popular beaches and a couple of snorkeling spots. The South Shore Detail includes Koloa, Poipu, Lawai, Ele’ele, Hanapepe and Port Allen. Resort locations and points of interest, such as Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Garden are listed. The South Shore Detail also lists 15 scuba diving and snorkeling spots, with descriptions from my experiences exploring there ("map research work"). This include Brennecke’s Ledge, Nukumoi Point, Po’ipu Beach, Icebox, Sheraton Caverns (the top boat dive spot around Kaua’i), Koloa Landing (the best shore dive on the South Shore), Prince Kuhio Park (the best turtle watching spot for snorkelers), Beach House Arch, Beach House (aka Lawai Beach, where "Snuba" tours .
