DVD Maine is a visual feast of cultural and scenic highlights of a state whose wilderness, lakes, rivers and dramatic coastline form a rugged, beautiful environment. An early morning trip to sea with two lobstermen is a lesson in the importance of crustaceans to the state's identity and economy. Local lobster pounds like Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound and Red's Eats are two of the places to enjoy this traditional delicacy. In Wiscasset, an unexpected peek into the Musical Wonder House reveals an astounding collection of beautifully preserved music boxes. In Freeport, you'll find the Desert of Maine, the only desert east of the Mississippi. Bar Harbor & surrounding Acadia National Park are charming, scenic and beautiful even on the most blustery day, which makes them two of the largest tourist draws in the state. In Eastport, tour a salmon aquaculture facility where they monitor the fish with cameras for an effective way to insure proper feeding. A longtime condiment for the area's sardines, Raye's Mustard is still popular enough to be made using the old-fashioned stone ground method from one hundred years ago to produce delicious gourmet mustards. Near Mt Katahdin a group of Appalachian Trail hikers who are almost finished with the trail reflect on their 2000-mile, 6 month journey. The historic Katahdin Steamboat has plied the waters of Moosehead Lake since the early 1900s, during which time it has hauled everything from tourists to logging equipment, and sometimes both. Maine used to be the number one potato producing state in the country and potato farming is still big business here. Although economies of scale have changed it somewhat, potato farming is still a family business and important enough to have its own television show, the Potato Picker's Special, each morning. The Maine Military Authority is responsible for saving the government millions of dollars by refurbishing a variety of military vehicles including the Humvee. A tour of their facility shows what goes into bringing Humvee's back to life with everything from improved suspensions to engine replacement and bodywork. Gene Bahr is a wildlife artist who uses the local basswood to create very unique "catch and release" carvings - amazingly detailed sculptures of fish that are intended to replace the trophy with a beautiful, artistic replica that won't suffer the ravages of time. - $24.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide

DVD. Nature Parks. The Acadia National Park is located in the North Eastern region of Maine in the United States and measures 142 square kilometres. The close proximity of the North Atlantic Ocean to the coastal forest landscape is one of the park's irresistible attractions. During fall, the season in which New England is at its most magnificent, the forests come alive with soft, warm colors and the entire landscape becomes transformed by this `fifth season' of the year. Thunder Hole is a further attraction. Onlookers seem almost awestruck when witnessing the relentless might of the Atlantic and the unexpected sound of thunder that emanates from a small cave within the granite cliffs caused by the sea as it floods into the air-filled cave, thus releasing the air pressure from within with fantastic, thunderous effect. Loop Road is a scenic route that travels from the coast to the countryside while passing a picturesque and charming semi-timbered house, the Jordan Pond Gate House, built by John D. Rockefeller in1932. Created from a glacier, Jordan Pond is relatively deep. At its northern end, there are two round hills, the `Bubbles', from the summit of which the vast landscape of the glowing forest below is even more impressive. Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the North Atlantic coast. The scant vegetation of this area is quite surprising, especially as it is in such close proximity to the nearby forests. During September, when the first so-called `leaf reports' are announced in the newspapers and on television, there's an air of excitement. The beginning of the Indian Summer is the time of the `Leaf Peepers.' Whether they travel to the park by car, foot, horse and carriage or by way of a rented mountain bike, visitors to Acadia's beautiful forests have a wide selection of leaves from which to choose. During fall, the red and orange of the maple trees and the golden yellow hues of aspen and birch melt together in a breathtaking carpet of colors that seems to cover the entire country. Acadia is a veritable arcadia! - $19.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide

DVD. Nature Wonders. 10 Minutes. From the steep cliffs of New England's coast to the north of the State of Maine, the power of the sea manifests itself. The region is home to the Acadia National Park whose magnificent forests have made it a popular sightseeing destination. Wealthy entrepreneurs were once attracted to the captivating town of Bar Harbor and had their summer homes there. Since then, the region has become a little less glamorous but idyllic scenery and picturesque areas such as Jordan Pond are still exceptionally beautiful. As the name Indian Summer suggests, New England's most well known season dates back to the golden years of the Native American Indian. The warm days at the beginning of autumn were once the most important time of the year for hunting because it was then that the region's animals grazed prior to the onset of winter. According to legend, the strong dark red color of the leaves symbolized the blood of slaughtered bears. The `autumn summer' was thus closely associated with the Native Indian hunters of old. Even today, the Acadia National Park combines all the natural beauty of Maine in a unique way that captivates all those who experience its irresistible charm. - $34.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide
