Yosemite National Park California - Travel Video.
DVD. Nature Parks Majestic, 1,000 metre high rock walls flank a magnificent valley, the heart of the world famous Yosemite National Park located in California's Sierra Nevada. The first thing that strikes most visitors to the park is its spectacular waterfalls which are the highest on the entire North American Continent. They plunge down more than 700 metres. At Yosemite Falls, the water from Yosemite Creek falls from the elevated regions of the Sierra Nevada down into the valley below. For several centuries, long before any white settlers reached the valleys of today's park, the area that surrounded the Merced River was the sole domain of the Native American Indian. For almost 4,000 years, this was the hunting ground of the Awanitshi Indians. In bygone times, the Indians called today's Bridal Veil Fall, `Pohono', The Spirit of the Wind. The name is most apt because the water is continuously forced away from the rock walls and the height of the waterfall is equivalent to around 62 storys. In the northern more inaccessible sections of the park, the cold and clear water of the streams flow into the Tuolmne River. The source of the water that travels into the Merced River is a combination of several creeks that are located in the 3,000 metre high alpine regions of both the Cathedral and Clarke Mountain Ranges. The park's prehistoric Mammoth Trees are truly gigantic and their trunks can reach a diameter of nearly 10 metres and a height of up to 70. The mighty trees are real natural wonders and are even protected from fire by their 50 centimetre thick bark. Strong tan acids prevent insects from attacking the wood and it's not uncommon to come across trees that are 1,000 years old. Yosemite is a truly splendid example of enchanting natural scenery with all the magnificence and artistry of water, gentle, powerful and at its most captivating.

Valley of Fire California - Travel Video.
DVD. Nature Parks The stunning rock formations of The Valley of Fire are located about a 60 minute drive from the U.S.A.'s famous gambling city of Las Vegas. The impressive rock formations of the Valley of Fire are the geological monuments of time immemorial, its deep canyons and caves far removed from civilization. Here, isolation reigns supreme, including silence and an infinity of calm. This is a realm of fantasy where it's possible to see countless fascinating images in the rock as the imagination runs riot and creates something new with each blink of the eye. The rocks are often between 100 and 200 metres high and during summer time, the unyielding temperature reaches between 50? - 60? Celsius (122? F - 140? F). Over the centuries, various rodents and reptiles have conquered this landscape including iguanas, lizards, rabbits as well as rattlesnakes, foxes, the roadrunner and the desert turtle. The fiery colors of the artistically weathered stone sculptures, rock domes and bridges continuously burn into the landscape. Some of the gigantic formations appear precarious and vulnerable and give the impression that they could collapse at any moment. In the early evening sun, the Valley of Fire is like a Martian landscape, the red color of the rock being even brighter and more intense as the sky darkens dramatically, the clouds hanging darkly and mysteriously over the fire-like mountains. An exciting climax to this blazing spectacle of nature.

Joshua Tree National Park California - Travel Video.
DVD. Nature Wonders. 10 Minutes. The sky shines cloudless and blue above the 2,000 square kilometres of Joshua Tree National Park in California. Both the fame and name of the park is derived from the innumerable and fantastic Joshua Trees that adorn its natural landscape. The southern section of the national park is influenced by the hot and arid Sonora Desert while in the higher altitudes of the north, is the cooler Mojave Desert. Joshua Tree was given its name in the 19th century when a group of Mormons traveled across it while traveling to San Bernardino. The branches of the trees were reminiscent to them of arms pointing up to the heavens. Toward the end of the 19th century, when the gold mines in the north of California had been stripped bare, the rocks of this region suddenly created much interest. The precious metal was indeed discovered in some areas of the Little San Bernardino Mountains and for some, it brought vast fortunes. But today, the wealth of this region lies in its untouched wilderness and impressive beauty.

Joshua Tree National Park California - Travel Video.
DVD. Nature Parks Approximately 230 kilometres east of Los Angeles and close to Palm Springs is the Joshua Tree National Park. Founded in 1994, this nature preserve, near to the Little San Bernardino Mountains, covers an area of around 2,000 square kilometres. It consists of 2 different types of desert. In the southern part, the Sonora Desert extends to the neighboring state of Arizona. The northern section of the park forms part of the Mojave Desert and, being in California, is located within a cooler climatic zone 1,000 metres above sea level. Even its rocks can be divided into 2 different geological forms. The powerful, dark scree mountains are called Pinto Gneis. The distinctly bright rock of the Monzogranite is the opposite of the Pinto Gneis that can be found in 6 different mountain ranges within the national park. The bulbous roots of the Joshua Tree were used by the Serrano Indians. Chopped and pounded, they were transformed into soap, string and mats where baskets were made from the plant's leaves. At the end of the 19th century, when the gold mines in the northern part of California had been abandoned, the region's rocky terrain became a focus of attention. Gold diggers began to travel to the south of the state and in 1865, the precious metal was discovered in this region. The most successful gold digging area was Lost Horse Mine, in the foothills of the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Each evening, fantastic sunsets cover this precious, untouched world with a fabulous light while the landscape becomes a captivating, blurred silhouette. When this colorful spectacle of nature takes place, the day draws to an end and the breeze takes a stroll across the vast expanses of the desert.

    Death Valley California - .
Nature Wonders. 10 Minutes. It is particularly during the hot summer months that Death Valley does full justice to its name. On some days, the temperatures can reach up to 45? C (113? F) in the shade! Geographically, Death Valley is a truly remarkable national park and Badwater is the deepest point in the entire western hemisphere. The shiny blue sky and impressive Sierra Nevada Mountain Range are two magnificent and colorful features of California's seemingly lifeless desert. The area around Badwater is studded with salt crystals. Its salt lake almost completely dries out during the summer due to the scorching heat. The bottom of the valley and the rocky slopes of the Panamint Mountains heat up the subsoil where temperatures of up to 90 degrees are quite common. The bizarre landscape of the mysterious 'Devil's Cornfield' really does seem to have been scorched by the heat of another planet but it is actually the relatively high salt content of the terrain that is responsible for its strange and desolate landscape. Death Valley is indeed a hot property!
