Amongst the world’s poorest nations and struggling to emerge from a 12 year ethnic based civil war, a land locked country in African great lakes region of East Africa boarded by Rwanda and Tanzania with its capital as Bujumba. The country is divided into 16 provinces which cover an area of just over 28,000 square kilometers.

The Country’s most assessable national part lies close to the capital and offers great trip, with safari opportunities, a zoo and some fantastic beach bars/resorts. Burundi occupies high plateau divided by several deep valleys and inhabitants of Burundi. For those that do, it’s likely they have only heard negative things, such as civil war, active rebels. The lush landscape, hillside covered with intricate patchwork of crops, French colonial influence, Locals with friendly vibes and subsistence lifestyle is a significant departure.

The lack of coastline in Burundi doesn’t mean a lack of beaches; the country has some great in land beaches where the heat can be escaped by a cool and safe dip in one of the country’s lakes. Varied Culture in Burundi and the influence from colonial settlers as well as the adopted cultures are worth learning about in order to understand this small yet fascinating country.

The must to try Sights in the city include the university which is the only one in Burundi and the Independence Monument which remembers hard times of occupation by French, Belgian and German rulers. The Living Museum in Bujumbura is one of the best museums of its kind in Africa showcasing ancient and modern crafts used in Burundi. Unfortunately, the country is going through a hard time politically and recent events involving a military coup but the people, the culture, and the nature of the country will not be hit to hard by such events.
