Acorn Media Publications. Mark Tully, the BBC correspondent, brings a lifetime of experience in India to this 1,050-mile journey on the spectacular rail network built by the British in the 1800's. Leaving Karachi on the mail train to Lahore, Mark makes a diversion north across the Sindh desert on a steam-hauled goods train, then through the magnificent Bolan Pass via 20 tunnels, each an incredible feat of engineering, and on to Quetta, which predates Greco-Roman civilization. Returning on the Khyber Mail, he continues to Rawalpindi, and then on to Peshawar, where the line through the Khyber Pass, closed since Russian occupation in 1982, is about to reopen. It's an exciting journey filled with exotic bazaars and good old-fashioned military pomp. 57 minutes. - Out of Print -
