In episode two, explore empire led civilizations enshrined through medieval European cities and palaces and the earliest sites of the New World and the Americas. In episode three, discover the great monuments of the modern era, the 19th and 20th Century battlefields of the World Wars, and post war relics and icons of power in the modern world. Join hosts Megan McCormick, Ian Wright, Holly Morris, Katy Haswell, Justine Shapiro, Zay Harding and Holly Morris on this global tour back in time to the most fascinating historic sites from the very beginnings of known civilization through to our modern age. Episode 1: The Ancient World Join Ian Wright, Justine Shapiro, Neil Gibson, Christina Chang , Estelle Bingham and Megan McCormick, as we time travel through the ages to the ancient world’s historic sites. We start with Stonehenge in England, one of the earliest remaining monuments to ancient man. Around the same time in Africa, the ingenuity of the Egyptian master builders resulted in the Great Pyramids at Giza and the Valley of the Kings. Travelling through time, we explore the power and sophistication of the Greek empire, while thousands of miles away the Qin dynasty in China was building the incredible terracotta warrior tomb. We visit Petra, a city carved out of glowing red rocks by the Nabatean people, deep in the Jordanian desert. But the ancient world’s most powerful civilization was the glorious Roman Empire, whose monuments are found throughout Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Once the might of Rome was in decline, the growing Christian and Islamic faiths started creating their own magnificent monuments. Heading east, we explore the majesty of Ankor Wat in Cambodia, and in the New World, the mystery of the Inca and Maya cities of the Americas. We end our historic journey with the lost civilization of Easter Island. Episode 2: The Age of Empires In this Globe Trekker Special, hosts Zay Harding, Katy Haswell, Ian Wright, Justine Shapiro, Megan McCormick, Estelle Bingham and Zoe Palmer explore the world’s most historic sites from the Age of Empires, travelling across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, visiting spectacular sites dating from medieval times to the 19th Century.
