DVD. On Tour. 26 Minutes. Listwjanka is located around seventy kilometers south east of Irkutsk. It is a prosperous village on the banks of Lake Baikal, the most popular holiday area in Siberia and where an extraordinarily journey begins on the Circum-Baikal Train. The train takes a full day to travel around the lake. The journey commences on an historic section of the railroad and one of the most difficult to be found on the Transsiberian Railroad that travels from Moscow to Vladivostock. Poloovinnaja is a small Siberian village is like something from a fairy tale with tiny wooden huts that nestle at the mouth of a river that flows into Lake Baikal. The appearance of the villagers is reminiscent of bygone times: men with long beards and large Burjatan caps, typical of their community. Lake Baikal originated around twenty million years ago, is one of the oldest lakes in the world and the largest fresh water reservoir on Earth. The length of the lake measures six hundred and thirty six kilometers, is between twenty seven and eighty kilometres wide and has a total surface area of almost thirty two thousand square kilometers! At the end of the journey is Sljudjanka, the only town in the world with a station constructed of marble. Indeed, the quarry lay nearby and so bringing it from elsewhere would have been more expensive. A stone memorial outside the station building greets arriving passengers and inside the station there is a final glimpse of the Tran-Siberian Railroad. The remarkable CIRCUM-BAIKAL Railroad - far more than a train journey! - $24.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide

DVD. On Tour. 26 Minutes. The most beautiful section of the Trans Siberian Railroad travels from Irkutsk in Siberia to the massive Lake Baikal. It takes in Ulan Ude as well as the border town of Nauschki and terminates at the Mongolian capital of Ulaan Baatar. Varied landscapes and exotic towns turn this journey into a fascinating adventure. Travelling from Moscow, and after a total of three days and more than five thousand kilometers on the train, we disembark at Irkutsk, the most beautiful city in Siberia. The city became home of the Dekrabisten who fought for liberty in the former Tsarist empire and were eventually banished to Siberia where they introduced their own culture. In Port Baikal is the remarkable and modern Circum-Baikal train that takes a full day to travel around Lake Baikal. Ulan Ude is an exotic city with a population of a million and for the first time we get a feeling of being in Asia. However, the largest head of Lenin in the world emphasis the region's association with Mother Russia. In 1666 a winter fortress was built on the Uda River by Russian Cossacks who were travelling east, the Verchneundinsk Fortress. Ulaan Baatar: the station is very quiet. Under the severe stare of the female train guards, passengers leave the train and the luggage is unloaded. The Trans Siberian Railroad is still the longest railway line in the world and connects the continents of Europe and Asia. It is truly a technical miracle and a legend that has survived the passage of time. - $24.95 DVD

But having only one life to live and only one trip to be able to afford, these video's did the job for me. To be able to track the area I will visit as to which mode of travel I should take was accomplished by having these great tools. Australia is so vast that one needs to plan carefully to see an area well. The train travel experience is well understood after watching these lovely video's.
