DVD. 7 Days. 52 Minutes. Arizona, land of cowboys and Indians and Wild West towns is marked by the all pervasive color red, as displayed by the awe-inspiring rock formations of its mighty canyons. A thousand years ago the highly-cultured Anasazi and Hohokam Indians lived here, planting maize and vegetables in the meager valleys and building walled towns into the cliffs of the canyons. They used the natural environment, protected caves in natural rock walls which were accessible only by simple wooden ladders. For the past century, scientists from all over the world have investigated evidence that a gigantic meteorite crashed here, leaving behind Meteor Crater. As the central and inner walls of the crater are similar to the landscape of the moon, preparation and training for the APOLLO space missions took place here. Located in North West Arizona is the 378 square kilometer National Park known as the `Petrified Forest' with a surrounding desert which shimmers in all the colors of the rainbow. There's the Agate Bridge, a huge fossilized tree trunk which spans 12 meters wide across a gorge and the amazingly beautiful Canyon De Chelly. Situated in the Navajo Indian Reservation, the Betatakin Ruins are the remains of historical dwellings which were carved into the rock by their original inhabitants from the 13th Century B.C. Wild West fans instantly recognize Monument Valley where, between colossal, 300 meter tall monoliths and sky-high rocky needles, John Wayne and countless other screen heroes fought off Indians and battled with `baddies.' A natural sculpture formed from undulating waves of stone, Antelope Canyon is a palette of color which teases the eye. From the surface, a gaping crevice is the only means of access, tempting the curious to enter. In bold contrast, the Grand Canyon is 1,600 meters deep and 16 kilometers long, the most colossal gorge in the world The sight of this gigantic natural wonder is the exciting climax of any trip to the magnificent and majestic land of Arizona. - $19.95 DVD

DVD. Nature Parks There are few places in the U.S.A. that, like the Canyon de Chelly, are both a national monument of Indian culture and at the same time, contain a magnificent rocky landscape that attracts the serious as well as the most casual lover of nature. The nature reservation's rocky terrain is formed by two long arms of land that consist of the southern Canyon de Chelly and the northern Canyon del Muerto. This rocky landscape is located in the northeast of Arizona and in the middle of Din?tah?s heart, ancient Navajo Indian territory that today contains their reservation. Since the beginning of the 11th century, during the most important time of their culture, the Anasazi Indians built dwellings in numerous locations of the river valley. One of the most popular and historic rock settlements and archaeological areas of the Canyon is the White House, thus named due to its stark, bright appearance. These buildings are remarkable architectural examples that date back to the historical epoch of the Pueblo Tribe, between the 12th and 14th centuries. An array of smooth, eroded sandstone walls decorate each of the reservation's valleys. However, although less frequent, more spectacular are the free standing rocky peaks such as Spider Rock. Such impressive moments reveal the magnificent beauty of the Canyon de Chelly, the sacred territory of the Navajo Indians and in the bright, burning glow of sunset, both sky and earth become as one. - $24.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide

DVD. Nature Wonders. 10 Minutes. There are few places on Earth that highlight the power of nature or are as impressive as the truly awesome Grand Canyon. Millions of years ago erosion and the relentless power of the Colorado River created its magnificent landscape and even today the river continues to force its way through the rock, sand and mud of Canyon. The Canyon extends for four hundred kilometres and its width ranges from between six and thirty kilometres. In 1919 the American government designated the region as a protected area. The first to discover the canyons were the Anasazi Indians who settled in the area around a thousand years ago. They hunted for food and also cultivated corn, pumpkins and beans in many of the neighbouring valleys. Even today a small Indian tribe lives in a nearby canyon. Words alone cannot describe the incredible landscape with its ever-changing colours and fascinating rock walls as the final rays of the setting sun disappear below the horizon until darkness falls in the majestic world of the Grand Canyon. - $24.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide

DVD. Nature Parks The Grand Canyon National Park is the most beautiful and well-known nature reserve in the U.S.A. Its 5,000 square kilometres covers more than 4 different climatic zones and rises to 2,200 metres above sea level. The Grand Canyon is also Indian Territory, the Navajo, Hopi and Havasuapi Indians still inhabit this region. Neatly piled one above the other, the Grand Canyon features 12 geological layers of various time periods. Its time-span ranges from the fossil rich 250 million year old limestone of the Kaibab Plateau to the almost 2 million year old Vishu slate at the bottom of the ravine. The Colorado River created this natural masterpiece in less than 10 million years, with severe heat and extreme cold eroding the rock, followed by rainfall that drove it down into a mighty river. Up to 1,600 metres deep and averaging 16 kilometres wide, the incredible dimensions of this huge abyss are difficult to comprehend, the descent into the canyon being like a journey into the Earth's distant past. The rays of the sun make the geological strata appear brown from above and green and blue from below. The cream-colored strata in the upper parts of the valley walls contain fossils of sponges, corals, snails and crustaceans. The beige-colored sandstone contains fish skeletons and in the purple limestone, there are the impressions of water lilies and primitive crustaceans, with green slate revealing traces of mussels and worms. At the bottom of the canyon, there are no further signs of life, only dark slate that is nearly 2 billion years old, interspersed with grainy pink granite. There is almost nowhere else in the world where the layman is provided with such a rich and comprehensive insight to the history of the formation of the Earth's geological layers created during the course of the past 2 billion years. - $24.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide

DVD. Nature Wonders. 10 Minutes. The Canyon De Chelly is a land full of myth and legend and also a national monument of Native Indian culture in the midst of today's Navajo reservation. Archaeologists have discovered that the deep, rocky valleys of this region were first inhabited by Native Indian tribes around a thousand years ago. The canyon offered natural protection against hostile attack and during the dry months of summer also provided a good supply of water. Today, numerous impressive cliff dwellings indicate the golden cultural period of the famous historic Indians, the Anasazi. Around four hundred years after the sudden and mysterious disappearance of the Anasazi, their ancient dwellings were occupied by the Navajo. However, the tranquil atmosphere of the canyon did not last forever as it was once the scene of various bloody battles between the Navajo and the Spanish. The White House is one of the most famous cliff dwellings and archaeological sites in the Canyon De Chelly and is open to the public. Various impressive petroglyphs have been found close to such settlements and many of these rock paintings date back to the time of the Anasazi. Few regions in the United States manage to unite both Native Indian history and culture with a natural landscape such as that of the Canyon De Chelly. - $19.95 DVD All Regions Worldwide
