It can follow Speak Mandarin or any other comparable first-year course in Mandarin. Pinyin and Yale Romanizations transcriptions are used throughout the text, but correspondence tables are given between Wade-Giles Romanization and Pinyin so the text can be used regardless of the Romanization system learned previously. Both full and simplified characters are provided.
