Mexico Sonora & Sinaloa Physical and Travel Reference Map. 2nd Edition.
Scale 1:800,000. International Travel Maps edition. The northern Pacific coastline of Mexico borders on California and Arizona and is a popular travel destination. Sonora is the more northerly state of Mexico, bordering on Baja California on its west (much of which is included on this map) Nogales is probably the best-known city, although Hermosillo is the capital. Sinaloa is more southerly, and is probably best known for Mazatlán, the popular ocean resort community and cruise ship port of call. Sinaloa is also the starting point for the famous train excursion known as the Copper Canyon, originating in Los Mochis. The rail route is shown on the map. The canyon is actually in Chihuahua State, which is included on this map, and goes through a portion of Mexico that is pretty much devoid of roads. The trip ends in Cuauhtémoc, but users are advised to stay on the train to the capital city, also called Chihuahua. We have included the top ten attractions of the region, including the Pinacate Volcanic Field, the Nacapule Canyon, and Las Labradas World Heritage site. This is a part of Mexico easy to reach from the USA, and has many attractive cities.

Mexico continues to be a very popular travel destination, and its Pacific coast continues to attract millions of visitors each year.

Side 1 covers from Mazatlán south to east of Salina Cruz, including the resort towns of Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco. Due to the shape of Mexico, Mexico City and Oaxaca are also on this side and inset maps of both cities is included. Naturally, the map includes the road network of the region, touristic sites, and gas stations in out-of-the-way places.

Side 2, provides a full-sized map of Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city and a wonderful destination for a visit. The city centre contains not only a magnificent cathedral and civic square, it also contains the Mercado Libertad, the largest such market in Latin America, perhaps in the world. In this edition, we have added two Top Attractions lists, with the primary sites of interest noted by a red box, such as San Juan de Allende and its baroque Spanish architecture.

It would be impractical to portray the entire urban area on one map and have it make sense, so we show the portion of greatest interest to visitors, from the Chapultepec Zoological Park in the west to the incredibly busy Tapo Bus Terminal in the east, and from the railway station in the north to the southern east-west motorway just south of the main hospital complex.

Much of MC’s touristic interest is concentrated in the Zona Rosa, Reforma, and Zocalo segments of the city centre, and these are shown in detail, noting hotels, major restaurants, shopping areas, and points of interest. The map also includes inset maps of the San Angel area just north of the university, an inset map of the greater Mexico City Federal District and a transit map of greater MC.

The transit map is also reproduced on the back cover for ease of use. The reverse side of the map focusses on the central portion of Mexico, from San Luis Potosi in the north to Acapulco in the south and from Puerto Vallarta in the west to east of Pueblo in the east. It includes several well-known tourist resort areas, but also several important historic centres of Mexico, such as Guadalajara, Taxco, Cuernavaca, Leon, and San Miguel de Allende. It would be worthwhile for anyone travelling to Mexico to have this map alone; combining it with MC merely makes it into a ‘must have’ for anyone flying into MC and hoping to explore beyond the city.
