Following shortly after our most recent research expedition to Cuba, we are pleased to announce the release of our most recent edition. This time, we concentrated on exploring the western half of the island, and learned quite a bit.

The country is slowly awakening after a half century of moribund activity and tourism is increasing faster than new facilities can be created. American tourism in the first quarter of 2016 equaled that of all of 2015. Airlines have started flying directly to Cuba from the USA, and demand is strong.

Cuba will overcome whatever obstacles exist and deal with realities. It can’t happen fast enough! This map retains the same ISBN and price as previously, although it represents a significant updating of information.

Cuba is the fastest-growing travel destination in the world. Initially, attention has favoured Havana and the western portion of the island, but tourism is rapidly transforming the eastern portion of the country into a more rustic, natural travel experience than the over-heated Varadero resorts or hectic Havana.

Until now, there has never been a map of the eastern half of Cuba now ITMB provides one! The map covers from Varadero to the easternmost tip of Guantanamo Province on a double-sided map. Insets of Varadero, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, and Santiago are included. Naturally, the road network is shown to advantage, and there are numerous capsule comments pointing out interesting points.

The American base in Guantanamo Bay is noted, but not emphasized. Cuba is a large island, safe to visit and full of friendly people. This map will prove invaluable to those wanting to go beyond the confines of the traditional resort communities.

This is a brand new title for ITMB and reflects the growing interest in travel to Cuba resulting from improved relations with the USA. Licenses to fly into the country from a dozen cities have already been approved 60 more are awaiting approval. All are for flights into Havana and Varadero airports in other words, the western half of the country.

ITMB already has an exceptionally good map of the entire country. We also have a separate map of Havana. This map expands the scale and opens the information for the western half of the island nation as a double-sided map, with the portion west of Havana to Pinar del Rio province in the far west and south to the Isla de la Juventud.

This side also has an excellent map of the Varadero beach resort area as an inset, and a map of greater Havana. The other side covers the area east of Havana that has the greatest potential for touristic development: Trinidad, Santa Clara, the developing resort areas off the north coast, and ending at Camaguey, a UNESCO World Heritage Centre. We first visited it ten years ago and it is a true treasure. This side of the map also has a detailed map of the historic centre of Havana and insets of Cienfuegos and Trinidad.
