Angola - Africa’s Dazzling High Spot
Elemental landscapes, colonial history, emerging national parks, beaches and the boom are inviting, however, the Republic of Angola remains a mystery to many travelers.
Angola is the 7th largest African country situated on the western Atlantic Coast of southern Africa covering an area of 481, 354 square miles. It shares borders with The Democratic republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Namibia in the north, east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to its west.
The oil and diamond rich country is rebuilding itself at full swing with lots of businesses being set up, construction all around and foreigners flocking to unravel Africa’s last travel mysteries. Some of the largest most beautiful waterfalls are Kalandula Falls, potentially the second largest in the continent and the Ruacana Falls that straddles the border of Angola and Namibia.
The four natural regions that make Angola are the arid coastal lowland, green hills and mountains, high inland plains of dry savanna called as Planalto or the high plateau, and the rain forests. Angola experiences cool and dry climate in the northern region from May to October while it is hot and rainy from November to April and semi-arid climate in the southern region. In the coastal region, the temperature varies between 16ºC and 21ºC.
Luanda is the largest capital city of Angola and serves as a major seaport and the administrative center. As per Mercer’s annual “cost of living” ranking, it is the most expensive city in the world, ahead of Hong Kong, Zurich, and Singapore. Some of the other important cities in Angola are Benguela, Huambo, Lobito, Soyo, Lucapa, Lubango, Namibe, Kuito and Malanje which are provincial capitals, major ports, and tourist sites. When you visit Angola, you can enjoy tanning in the sun, relax and have fun, and travel with a map, qualified assistance, and a satellite phone.

Angola is a fascinating mixture of ethnicity and wealth. It is still climbing out of the morass of post-colonial rule, but is now as safe as any country for travelers. Its infrastructure, particularly its roads are of uneven quality, and we hope that this map will stimulate visitors to write us of their experiences with travelling through this vast country.
We have tried to include as much detail as possible, and as accurately as possible, given the uncertain nature of much of the base material. The map includes a decent inset of Luanda, the capital, and all areas designated as parkland.
