Africa is a huge continent. No one apart from us has successfully prepared a digital data base for the entire continent and this edition includes numerous updates to road information and shifting political realities. We have updated roads whenever reliable data indicates improvements, such as connections between the southern tip of Morocco and the road leading to Nouakchott, in Mauritania.
Politically, we all know of things that do not affect maps - the closed border between Algeria and Morocco, the coup in Guinea, the continued instability of Libya, the generally better degree of stability in Somalia, the on-going troubles in South Sudan - but generally, the continent of 54 nation states and a few colonial enclaves has survived two years of destabilizing Covid ravages rather well.
Tourism is gradually recovering, and map sales improving. This is a very important map in that it brings all of the countries and islands relative to the African continent into perspective. We are pleased to bring to your attention an updated version of a part of the world that is crucially important.

his map is one of the first of our enganced scale maps that will gradually become the norm for regional maps of parts of the African continent. This map is also unique in that it does what I do not believe has been attempted before by any publisher - portraying the entire Mediterranean coastline from Morocco to the eastern edge of Egypt in one double-sided map.I admit, current political realities make this map somewhat challenging. One cannot cross, for example, between Morocco and Algeria, and Libya is in such a state of disarray at the moment that it is not practical to visit the country. However, the strangth of this title is that it breaks new ground and looks at the countries north of Sahara as a comprehensive entity in great detail.

This is the second detailed map of Africa emanating from our continental data base and, at an scale better than Michelin’s famous regional map, we feel that this version is a winner. First, it is printed double-sided with the western coastal segment on one side and the eastern half on the other.Second, we have been able to improve the accuracy of the road information enormously at the better scale, and third we are making progress in developing a new series of travel maps for Africa by publishing the first of what we hope will become a new regional map covering Africa from top to bottom, or from Cape to Cairo, as Uncle Cecil used to say.
The coverage of this map is from Morocco in the west to the Libyan/Egyptian border and from Senegal and Liberia in the southwest to the Chad/Sudan border in the southeast. This is also the first time that we have included any mapping for Guinea, Liberia, or the Ivory Coast on any of our maps, albeit not at a scale that we feel is appropriate yet! Watch for more titles on Africa later in 2014.

Scale 1:3,400,000. International Travel Maps edition.
This is the latest map in our growing coverage of Africa using our digital data base to create modern new maps of section of a fascinating continent. As our database matures, we are able to produce maps at better scales for specific purposes. This map, at 1:3,400,000 scale is ideal for travelers crossing Africa from Europe to central and southern parts of Africa by land.
It covers from the southern tip of Spain through Morocco and western Algeria on one side to Mauritania and the Bight of Benin states of West Africa, as far east as western Nigeria. As a regional map, the detail provided is unsurpassed by any other map of this part of the world. It is the most detailed map to date of the West African states of Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia and Sierra Leone. As is always the case with Africa, road information is presented in practical terms of road quality, not road designation.
This is a practical map for travelers, so information can be extremely difficult to determine. This is very much a map in progress, and we would welcome commments about it to assist future editions. The spelling of place names is as would be known in English, Cote D'Ivoire is Ivory Coast.

ITMB is pleased to announce another brand new map. Although we published a schematic map of the desert crossings a number of years ago, we felt that it had out-lived its useful shelf life and was retired last year.
Using the digital data base that we have been creating for Africa for the past few years, we now have what we feel is a very strong map of the northern portion of Africa, from southern Morocco and Mauritania in the west to Egypt in the east, and from the Mediterranean coast south to partway through Niger, Chad, and Sudan.
Technically, the coastal regions and the Nile Delta are not part of the desert, but desert-like features are so close to the coast in the vicinity of Cairo and Tripoli that it makes more sense to include all the areas that try to edit those more specifically a desert.
The bad news about publishing a map of this part of the world at this time is that Islamic militancy is very much evident throughout the region and travel to Libya in particular is not recommended. However, this is a short-term reality that does not deter from the value of such a map, showing as it does the three great north-south passageways through the desert to the sub-Saharan countries.
I used the western route many years ago, through Morocco and Mauritania, to Senegal. The other well-travelled route is through Algeria, through Tamanghasset, to Nigeria, and the route gaining favour being the Cairo to Cape route through Sudan. This map, being a digital data base, will be much easier to update as time passes and is very accurate, being satellite driven.

This is the third of our regional maps covering the African continent and covers the portion just south of Nigeria/Cameroun that, essentially, straddles the equator. The jungle-like western half has always been referred to as Equatorial Africa, which is a bit of a mis-nomer because Uganda and Kenya also straddle the equator. The area of coverage of this map is two-fold: to bring the western portion into our growing digital data base and to provide our first-ever ITM map of beautiful East Africa (the KUT countries, Rwanda, and Burundi).
Unlike Michelin, that places what it calls Central and Southern Africa on to one large single-sided sheet, we have decided to divide the southern half of the African continent into three double-sided sheets at a better scale. This is the first one, covering Africa as far south as Zambia, with a bit of Zimbabwe. As with all of our regional African maps, this one focuses on road conditions, distances, urban areas, facilities, parks, and attractions

Scale 1:3,400,000. Size 27"x39". International Travel Maps edition.
This is the latest map from our growing digital data base on Africa. One side of this map concentrates on the five countries of what is generally known as East Africa - Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi, with bits of neighbouring countries thrown in.
The second side covers what has always been called Central Africa, probably because it was once British Central Africa. This is Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, with the northern half of Mozambique and the Okavango delta included, as well as a bit of DEM Congo. The map covers a vast portion of the African continent and includes a diverse ethnic and geographic reality. We have tried to categorize roads by condition, but the reality of Africa is that some main roads are in pretty poor condition.
Some secondary roads are not shown as being as good as they probably are, but verifying data for Africa is difficult. This is our first map of this part of the world based on GIS Data. As such, it is much more precisely accurate than anything done to date. Africa is still a 'work in progress' but this map opens it for exploration by visitors.

As far as I know, there has never been a map covering the entire coastline of the Indian Ocean portion of Africa, from Djibouti all the way south to Port Elizabeth, in South Africa – until now! This double-sided map encompasses a vast region, including all of Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Swaziland (which now prefers to be called Eswatini), as well as an inset map of Madagascar.
Large portions of several other countries are included, such as South Africa and southern Ethiopia. This would be an excellent map for anyone travelling overland from Nairobi to the Cape. All road and rail routes are shown, as well as major touristic attractions, national parks and game preserves. A Top Attractions list is included, noting Ngorogoro, Kruger, Victoria Falls, and lesser-known attractions such as the Tuli Block and Sibebe Rock.

This edition was started a year ago and incorporates an innovative approach to data portrayal by essentially over-lapping our very detailed South Africa artwork over top of the southern Africa artwork. The result is a much more detailed regional map than was possible previously.
