Spain Land of Contrasts - Travel Video.
DVD. Client Denn Digital Camera. 65 Minutes. Spain has always evoked romantic visions: Sun clad Mediterranean beaches;ancient castles;blustery Atlantic fishing ports;high mountain Pyrenees villages; Toledo Steel;and Don Quixote tilting at windmills. The varied landscape, with Europe's second largest plain to the south and mountains higher than the Alps to the north, provide marked contrasts in climate, vegetation, and customs. To compliment the beautiful and varied land are some of Europe's great cities. Three of these are UNESCO World Historical Monuments; Toledo, Salamanca, and Santiago de Compostela. Rich in architectural grandeur, these cities, and many more, show over 2,000 years of splendor so extensive that it seems almost too much to absorb. Spain's 400 years of close trade ties with Greece, 500 years of Roman rule, and 700 years under the Moors is evident today in its diversity and its people. Include stops to enjoy the people, their customs and food along the way. Sleep in the castle, dine in a palace, tilt at a windmill, and even venture into Spanish Africa. You can do all this and more in CLINT DENN's "Spain, Land of Contrasts".

    Spain - Travel Video.
DVD. 7 Days. 52 Minutes. We begin our journey in the Spanish province of Galicia. The Romans conquered San Diago de Compostela, a harbor city that has always been associated with the sea and since the Middle Ages it was, apart from Jerusalem and Rome, the most important pilgrimage destination in Christendom. Some centuries ago each of the large villages of the Rias Baixas prospered due to fishing as did Pontevedra whose old town has been well-preserved with cobbled streets, intimate squares and the residential palaces of the city's former elite. Vigo is reminiscent of Liverpool in the United Kingdom and is the largest city in Galicia. In 1529 the city began to trade with South America and this brought with it a new wave of prosperity. Then followed the Industrial Revolution which gave rise to a modern commercial city with a huge fishing industry. Madrid is Europe's most geographically elevated metropolis, a royal capital of history, outstanding buildings and cultural treasures. Madrid has a boulevard that has transformed it into a major metropolis, the Gran Via, which compares in both design and dimensions with the exquisite streets of Paris and New York. Toledo is one of the oldest and proudest cities in Spain where during Roman times one of the greatest settlements was established, not surprising as it is located on a mighty rock foundation which served a useful purpose for its eventual defense. Barcelona is one of the most lively harbor cities on the Mediterranean and, after Madrid, Spain's second largest city and the capital of Catalonia. On the wide and shady boulevard of La Rambla that passes through the old town to the harbor, life goes on both day and night. The Costa Del Sol is the name of the southern Mediterranean coast of Spain. In former times a variety of bumpy roads connected this region's sandy bays and remote fishing villages where once the Phoenicians and Romans settled long before the arrival of the Moors. Malaga, Seville, Cordoba and finally Granada, the conclusion of our journey through a world of rocky coastlines and sandy beaches, magnificent cities and Moorish castles, an atmospheric land steeped in a wealth of history.

DVD. Six Shows: 3 hours, closed captioned, NTSC format, all region compatible. Here's where we'll take you... The Majesty of Madrid -- Madrid is studded with riches from its glory days. We tour the lavish Royal Palace, enjoy art-packed museums, and look deep into Picasso's greatest masterpiece. Experiencing Madrid at its fun-loving best, we're mesmerized by flamenco dancers and munch on pigs' ears. Then, for a dose of Spain's dramatic history, we side-trip to El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen. Highlights of Castille: Toledo and Salamanca -- Castille sparkles with Roman Segovia, walled Avila, student-filled Salamanca, and holy Toledo! We marvel at El Greco, pop some explosive pickles, and ramble Spain's most awe-inspiring medieval walls. Then, just for fun, we drop in on a bachelorette party with local troubadours, slice and savor tasty jamon, stroll with the crowd, and grab a front-row seat to enjoy Europe's most enchanting square. Sevilla and Andalusia -- Sevilla is the flamboyant city of Carmen and Don Juan. It's where bullfighting is still politically correct and where little girls dream of growing up to become flamenco dancers. Sevilla has soul -- and we feel it in its lacy Moorish palace, massive cathedral, lavish royal tombs, labyrinthine Jewish quarter, and its people-filled streets. After munching tasty tapas, we head south for Andalusia's ultimate whitewashed hilltown, Arcos de la Frontera. Spain's Costa del Sol -- Here in southern Spain, we explore Granada's Alhambra -- Europe's last and greatest Moorish palace, and we soak up the sun on a Costa del Sol beach. As we check out Gibraltar, a last vestige of the British Empire, we feed the legendary monkeys at the Rock of Gibraltar. Finally, a day trip to Africa takes us to Tangier where we plunge into the exotic, packed-tight markets and streets of old Morocco. Lisbon and the Algarve -- Experiencing the best of Portugal, we start in Lisbon, a ramshackle mix of glorious old and fun-loving new. Salty sailors' quarters and wistful Fado singers mix with ornate architecture to recall the glory days when Vasco da Gama and Magellan made Portugal a world power. After a uniquely matador-brutalizing Portuguese bullfight, we head for the south coast of your travel dreams -- the Algarve. We explore the Land's End of Europe -- windy and historic Cape Sagres before savoring pristine beaches and arm-wrestling octopi in the sleepy fishing village of Salema. Portugal's Heartland -- Leaving Lisbon for the countryside, we eat barnacles in a salty old fishing town, march with pilgrims on the anniversary of a miracle, ponder the local Romeo and Juliet, sample university life, and rummage through the riches of Portugal's Golden Age.
