Anguilla - Wreck Diving Capital of The Caribbean

Anguilla is a Caribbean British overseas territory. The island is made of coral and limestone located north of Saint Martin, separated by the Anguilla Channel, east of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. It has 33 shimmering white-sand beaches like

Shoal Bay East, coconut palms, sea grape trees and vibrant reefs with scrub, tropical and forest vegetation.

Anguilla is an eel-shaped island approximately 16 miles or 26 km long by 3 miles or 5 km wide. The territory of Anguilla is 35 square miles or 90 square kilometers comprising of a many other small, mostly tiny and uninhabited islands and cays. Some of the islands are Anguillita, Dog Island, Sombrero (known as Hat Island), Prickly Pear Cays, Scrub Island, Seal Island, and Sandy Island.

Its capital is The Valley, which is one of the largest and the main cities of Anguilla. Some of the other large cities based on population are Blowing Point Village, East End Village, George Hill, Island Harbour, Sandy Ground Village, Stoney Ground, and The Farrington.

A population of about 14,000 people lives in Anguilla. It is extremely popular for scuba diving and water activities like sailing to the tiny islets and atolls, impressive snorkeling, and glass-bottomed kayaking. There are nine shipwrecks in the waters surrounding the island which makes it the ‘Wreck Diving Capital of The Caribbean’. Anguilla’s economy is mostly based on tourism and fishing beside being a tax haven banking and offshore incorporation also contribute.
