Seven Wonders of The Ancient World - Travel Video.
DVD. 2 Hours.

Internationally-acclaimed and award-winning, The Seven Wonders of the
Ancient World is like nothing you've ever seen before. Narrated by
Pierce Brosnan and shot on the scale of a major motion picture, this
dramatized program employs a cast of thousands, location filming, and
digital imagery to recreate the ancient wonders as they appeared in
their original glory! I.M. Pei leads a team of renowned experts who
reveal how the wonders influenced modern architecture and construction
design. The Pyramids of Giza, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Statue
of Zeus at Olympia, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, The Temple of
Artemis at Ephesus, The Colossus of Rhodes, and The Pharos of Alexandria
were unbelievably created by human hands with simple tools in the
Hellenistic world. Alexander the Great visited most of them during his
lifetime and directly influenced the others--tragically dying in one and
being buried in the shadow of another.

Mystic Lands Gift Set (6 Volumes) - Travel
Videos. Mystic
Lands.
Review: This is a series of
documentaries on various cultures and sacred places: Varanasi, India; the Taj
Mahal; Haitian voodoo; Hinduism
on Bali; Burma; Peru; Egypt; Jerusalem; Greece; Australian aboriginal
tradition; the Anasazi ruins in the American Southwest; and Tantric
Buddhism in Bhutan. They are each about 25 minutes long.
They don't presuppose any knowledge of the religions they cover.
But far more remarkably, they don't oversimplify and very rarely mislead
or descend into shallow sentimentality. They maintain fairness to
the traditions as well as historical accuracy without condescension.
The ones on Burma, Haiti, Varanasi and Peru are especially good;
Jerusalem and Egypt are perhaps a little weak. Few documentaries
about religious topics would receive this high of a rating from me.
These are genuinely good.

Gardens of the World - Travel Video. 6 Volume Boxed Set.
Goldhil Home Media.
Roses and Rose Gardens
Host Audrey Hepburn leads a glorious
adventure with the rose, the world’s most popular flower. Starting
with the French ideal of a rose garden at La Roseraie de l’Hays les Roses
to the magic of the
unsurpassed
collection of old roses at Mottisfont Abbey in Hampshire, World, the
rose claims its rightful place as the ultimate flower of legend, romance
and beauty. Special guest appearance by world renowned author and
rosarian, Graham Stuart Thomas.
Tulips and Spring Bulbs
The vast, colorful bulb fields of our
host, Audrey Hepburn’s native Holland, are only a small part of a complex
cultural phenomenon. Here, bulbs are intertwined with the history and art
of an entire country. The transformation from sleeping bulb to
elegant bloom is miraculous, Hepburn notes. Narcissus, hyacinth, muscari
and bluebells share the stage with the favorite, the tulip, for a grand
tour of spring blooms at the spectacular Keukenhof in Holland and Chenics
Manor, in World, and more.
Formal Gardens
Audrey Hepburn travels through the rich
evolution of formal garden design in some of the world’s most spectacular
settings-from the Renaissance gardens of Italy (Villa Gamberaia, Villa
Lante, Villa La Pietra), the grand 17th century gardens of France (Chateau
de Courances, Versailles) to the lushy planted 20th century gardens of
World (Hidcote Manor, Tintinhull House). Special guest appearance
by famed garden authority, Penelope Hobhouse.
Flower Gardens
Perhaps no garden in the world exhibits a
more exhilarating use of flowers than Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny.
Monet’s exuberant palette of colors strikingly contrasts with the grace
and elegance of the classic perennial borders found at Tintinhull House in
Somerset, World. The native flora of America’s southeast further
illustrate the range of aesthetics and pleasure found in the world’s most
beautiful flower gardens. Special guest appearances by famed garden
authority, Penelope Hobhouse.
Country Gardens
The pleasure of a country garden-heavy with smell, taste and touch – has
captured the imagination of artists and poets for centuries. Audrey
Hepburn explores several of the world’s most beautiful country-gardens –
among them, the romantic Giradino del Ninfa, south of Rome; charming
cottage gardens in World; the farmhouse hardens surrounding Chilcombe
House in Dorset, U.K.) Guest appearance by John Brookes, garden
designer and author, and American garden designer Ryan Gainey.
Public Gardens and Trees
Host Audrey Hepburn explores the
beautifully restored gardens at Mt. Vernon, originally created for the
private pleasures of one of America’s first great gardeners, George
Washington. This garden stands today as one of America’s most
charming public gardens. Audrey Hepburn presents the diversity and wealth
of public gardens in the city of Paris – among them, intimate ‘pocket
parks,’ former grand royal gardens and spectacular pleasure gardens.
All this and more in “Public Gardens and Trees.” 165 minutes.

Paradise of the Earth (Episode 1)
- Travel Video. DVD.
Cosmos Global Documentaries. 52
Minutes.

The vast untouched grassy plains of the
unique Massai Mara extend far beyond the horizon and seem to go on
forever in what is the most important Nature Reserve in Kenya.
An estimated 1.4 million wildebeest inhabit the picturesque mosaic of
small hills and forests that line the riverbanks and huge grass covered
plains of the Massai Mara which is one of the most animal-rich regions
in the world. More than half a million gazelle roam the magnificent
plains of the savannah and herds of zebra are also to be found in great
numbers, a sight that conjures up Africa, safaris and exotic wildlife.
For many years Monument Valley and its distinctive mesas in the northern
region of Arizona have become one of the most famous natural landmarks
in the U.S.A. This glowing landscape owed its initial fame to the
American film industry as numerous classic westerns have been filmed
amid its striking scenery. The stunning beauty of the area’s spectacular
rock needles and towers is a truly remarkable sight.
Even though the province of Yunnan in the southwest of China is one of
the country’s poorest regions, the Stone Forest Of Shilin is one of the
country’s most beautiful natural treasures. The bizarre rock formations
rise up thirty metres into the sky and create numerous fascinating
images. The Chinese created some extremely descriptive names for the
various rocky areas of Yunnan Shilin, ‘The Cluster of Pinnacles That
Supports the Sky’, being one of many colourful names given to the
pinnacles.
Along the geothermal zone of the Hvítá River around eighty kilometres
from Iceland’s capital of Reykjavik, the great Strokkur Geyser located
in the south western section of the island attracts much interest. With
its sparse and unique landscape Iceland has managed to retain its
fascinating natural splendour right up to the present day. And its
remarkable geysers are one of the world’s most spectacular natural
phenomena.

Paradise of the Earth (Episode 2)
- Travel Video. DVD.
Cosmos Global Documentaries. 52
Minutes.

Unlike the hustle and bustle of
the nearby city of Guilin in the Guangxi region in the heart of China,
the landscape that follows the Lijiang River has a rural and idyllic
atmosphere. Rural life here is blessed with beautiful scenery and the
landscape around Guilin is synonymous with the magnificence of the
legendary Middle Empire. A boat trip along the Lijiang River is an ideal
way to travel and to experience this impressive and famous area with its
unique and bizarrely-shaped peaks. Its geological formations date back
more than three hundred million years when the Guilin region was
entirely covered by ocean.
Blyde River Canyon is twenty six kilometres long and over eight hundred
metres deep and is one of the most beautiful regions of the Transvaal
Drakens Mountains in South Africa. The first glimpse of the circular
rock formations and it is evident why Blyde River Canyon is considered
to be one of the greatest natural wonders in Africa. The red sandstone
cliffs are almost vertical and in some sections measure several hundred
metres down to the canyon and river below.
Just outside the town of Page in the state of Arizona a narrow and
unimpressive entrance leads into the mysterious world of Antelope
Canyon. The small Antelope Creek River that is infrequently fed by
additional water has, throughout the course of thousands of years, cut a
fascinating canyon into the red sandstone and created a natural work of
art. A true celebration of form and colour, unearthly, mysterious and of
amazing beauty.
The Etosha National Park in Namibia is one of the largest wildlife
reserves in the world. No other park in Africa contains as many animals.
A hundred and ten different mammals have been recorded in this national
park. A truly remarkable variety that is also reflected in the
vegetation of the region. Over three hundred and forty species of bird
populate this unique habitat. The vastness of this magnificent landscape
is overwhelming as Etosha covers an area of almost twenty two thousand
square kilometres!

Paradise of the Earth (Episode 3)
- Travel Video. DVD.
Cosmos Global Documentaries. 52
Minutes.

It is particularly during the hot summer months that Death Valley does
full justice to its name. On some days the temperatures here can reach
up to forty five degrees Celsius in the shade, a rare commodity in this
scant, treeless landscape. The bizarre landscape of the mysterious
Devil’s Cornfield really does seem to have been scorched by the heat of
another planet. But it is actually the relatively high salt content of
the terrain that is responsible for its strange and desolate landscape.
Located in the south of the African continent and located on the
Zambia/Zimbabwe border, the Victoria Falls is one of the world’s most
amazing and impressive wonders of nature. Just as amazing as the
waterfalls is the metamorphosis of the Zambesi River that transforms
itself from a wide and lethargic river to one that is narrow and
powerful. Between February and March when the Zambesi is at its most
powerful an average of more than five hundred million litres of water
shoot over the edge of the waterfall each minute.
In the north of Taiwan close to the second largest harbour in Keelung is
one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. Due to its bizarre rock
formations, Yehliu Park provides visitors with scenery that could be
from a distant planet. But the polymorphic shapes of the rock are not
extraterrestrial but the result of an ancient process that dates back
several million years.
The arid landscape of the mighty Namib Naukluft Park in the heart of
Namibia seems to be endless and it is the fourth largest nature reserve
in the world. Further into the Namib Desert and the colours of the
surrounding landscape grow more intense. It is as though both earth and
sky are competing against each other to see which shines brightest.
Who Tee-Ow Shah is the sonorous Chinese name of the Leaping Tiger Gorge
that is located around a hundred kilometres from the town of Zhongdian,
the gateway to Tibet. The Leaping Tiger Gorge owes its name to the fact
that at one point it is only thirty metres wide. In both a metaphoric
and symbolic sense a tiger could jump across the golden Jinsha River
with a single leap!
