National Parks: Yellowstone,
The Grand Canyon and Yosemite
- DVD.
4 Hours.
Bring home this must-have
for fans of our national parks! This three-DVD special collection
includes:
Disc #1:
Yellowstone -
Yellowstone was the first national park in the world, and
one of its greatest wildlife preserves.
This immense forest sprawls across 2.2 million acres of land that
features erupting geysers, thundering waterfalls, gurgling hot springs
and incredibly diverse wildlife.
A grizzly bear chases an elk in a life-or-death pursuit. An
antelope doe chases a coyote away from her young.
Bighorn sheep butt heads in angry combat. We also see the great
fire of 1988, and how devastation gave way to new growth.
Go on a guided tour with park rangers into the backcountry, or take
a stagecoach ride into an early-morning cookout. Most of all, absorb the
wondrous natural beauty that exists so abundantly in one of our most
popular national parks.
Disc #2:
Grand Canyon -
From soaring rock formations to the raging whitewater
rapids of the Colorado River, marvel at the majesty of the grandest
canyon on the planet!
For an exhilarating experience, try whitewater rafting or take the
slow and steady route on a pack-mule trip.
Day trips to the Havasupai Indian Reservation, Lake Powell, and
Zion National Park are also included. More than 2,000 years ago, the
Anasazi Indians lived in this region.
This program includes an exclusive segment on Shaman's Gallery,
where many Anasazi rock paintings have been preserved.
Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed the Grand Canyon a national park in
1908, saying "do nothing to mar its grandeur, keep it for your children,
for your children's children, and all who come after you."
Disc #3: Yosemite -
Immortalized by
photographer Ansel Adams and championed by naturalist John Muir,
Yosemite is the most awe-inspiring national park of them all! In
addition to fishing, cross-country skiing and even golfing, the park
offers exciting rock-climbing opportunities on the faces of such peaks
as Half-Dome and El Capitan.
Visit Devil's Postpile National Monument and two more national
parks--Sequoia and King's Canyon--just a few hours away.
The program also captures many images of the diverse wildlife that
roams the vast 1,170 square miles of Yosemite National Park: mile deer,
mountain lions, black bears, coyotes, bighorn sheep and the rare
peregrine falcon.
With all these natural riches, it is small wonder that
Yosemite continues to thrive as one of America's most popular national
parks.

North America
Wonderland Of Nature,
Part 1
- Travel
Video - DVD.
Cosmos Global Documentaries. 52
Minutes.
Early in the morning, mist cloaks
the deep valleys of the
Grand Canyon.
Soon it clears to reveal a huge, magical world. Millions of years ago,
erosion and the
relentless power of the Colorado River created this
magnificent landscape and even today the river continues to force its
way through the rock, sand and mud of the Grand Canyon. The first to
discover the canyons were the Anasazi Indians who settled in the region
around a thousand years ago. They hunted for food and also cultivated
corn, pumpkins and beans in many of the neighbouring valleys and even
today a small Indian tribe lives in a nearby canyon.
For many years Monument Valley and its distinctive mesas in the northern
part of Arizona have become one of the most famous natural landmarks in
the United States. The glowing landscape owed its original fame to the
American film industry and several famous western classics were filmed
amid its striking scenery.
The splendour of the Mesa Verde, or ‘Green Table’, is well described by
its name. The seemingly endless landscape reveals a broad and idyllic
plain. Park Point is the highest vantage point, two thousand six hundred
metres above sea level. The plateau is rich with forest and game and the
Mesa’s oldest archaeological discoveries date back around twelve
thousand years.
Zion National Park
attained its present day dimensions by 1939 and since then an increasing
number of visitors have witnessed its magnificent rock formations.
Despite, by American standards, its relatively small dimensions of six
hundred square kilometres, the region consists of numerous diverse
vegetation zones. Although the region’s flora is as diverse as the
terrain upon which it grows, millions of years ago the area was a vast
desert.
The southern part of the
Joshua Tree National Park
is influenced by the hot and arid Sonora Desert. In contrast, in the
higher altitudes of the north is the cooler Mojave Desert. In spring
various desert flowers begin to blossom and the otherwise sandy brown
scenery is transformed into a colourful and shining ocean of floral
splendour.

North America
Wonderland Of Nature, Part 2
- Travel Video - DVD.
Cosmos Global Documentaries. 52
Minutes.
An extensive, scant desert landscape
surrounds the
Petrified Forest National Park,
east of Arizona. Two hundred million years ago this region was a
swampland inhabited by various species of dinosaur whose fossilised
remains can be found throughout the park.

The sight of the magnificent rock formations of Bryce Canyon to the
southwest of Utah is a truly breathtaking experience. In their native
tongue the region’s Paiute Indians once named this remarkable place as,
“Red rocks that stand like men in a bowl-shaped canyon”. Since the first
settlers arrived in Bryce Canyon many have found it difficult to
describe this beautiful and unique world of natural stone. The sheer
vastness of the region along with its seemingly endless variety of rock
formations makes any visit a rewarding and memorable experience.
It is from the steep cliffs of New England’s coast to the north of the
State of Maine that the power of the sea manifests itself and as soon as
the mist begins to clear in the
Acadia National Park
the view reveals the magnificent forests that have made it such a
popular sightseeing destination. From September to the end of November,
the forests of New England shine out in remarkable and truly amazing
colour.
Surrounded by the grey limestone of the Muddy Mountains the rocks in the
Valley Of Fire, the oldest state park in Nevada, glow with a remarkable
intensity. The red rocks do indeed appear to burn in a magical fire that
seems to transform them into stone.
Mono lake is the greatest crater lake in the world and although it is
one of the oldest lakes in North America its water is three times as
salty as the sea!
Situated in the state of Utah the
Arches National Park
is one of the most famous national parks in North America and owes its
fame to its fantastic sandstone arches. In spite of its comparatively
modest size of three hundred square kilometres it boasts one of the most
magnificent landscapes in the entire south west of the United States.

North America
Wonderland Of Nature, Part 3
- Travel
Video -
DVD.
Cosmos Global Documentaries. 52
Minutes.
Just outside the town of Page in the
state of Arizona,
a narrow and unimpressive entrance leads into the mysterious world of
Antelope Canyon. The Antelope Creek River has over the course of
thousands of years cut a fascinating canyon into the red sandstone and
created a natural work of art, a true celebration of form and colour,
unearthly and of
amazing beauty.
The Grand Staircase has five different vegetation zones and thus boasts
a remarkable variety of indigenous trees and plants. It is divided into
three vast areas, the Grand Staircase, the Kaiparowits Plateau and the
Escalante Canyons.
Geographically,
Death Valley is a truly
remarkable national park and Badwater is the deepest point in the entire
western hemisphere. The bizarre landscape of the mysterious Devil´s
Cornfield really does seem to have been scorched by the heat of another
planet. But it is actually the relatively high salt content of the
terrain that is responsible for its strange and desolate landscape.
The Capitol Reef
National Park is a mighty
section of the earth's crust that extends for around a hundred and sixty
kilometres. Today, the numerous sediments that are contained within the
stone strata are visible as long, colourful ribbons and strips within
the rocks of this region.
At Yosemite Falls steep rocks tower up more than seven hundred metres
and it is the park’s highest and most impressive waterfall. The
surrounding forests are also attractive but the most famous sight of the
region are the nine waterfalls of Yosemite Valley.
The Canyon De Chelly is a land full of myth and legend and also a
national monument of Native Indian culture in the midst of today’s
Navajo Indian reservation.
